Description

This Rich Caramel Frosted Cake is a delightful dessert that combines a moist cake with a sweet caramel frosting, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake:
    1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
    2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
    3. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
    4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
    5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
    6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
    7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    8. Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  2. Make the Caramel Frosting:
    1. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the brown sugar and bring to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
    2. Carefully add the cream and return to a boil, continuing to stir for 2 more minutes. Remove from heat and let cool until lukewarm.
    3. Transfer to a mixing bowl and gradually beat in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  3. Assemble the Cake:
    1. Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of caramel frosting over the top.
    2. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining caramel frosting.
    3. Garnish with decorative swirls if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results.
  • For an extra moist cake, brush each layer with a sugar syrup before frosting.
  • If the frosting becomes too thick, add a little more cream until you reach the desired consistency.
  • To enhance the caramel flavor, consider adding a pinch of sea salt to the frosting.
