Description

A delicious and comforting bread pudding made with stale bread, milk, eggs, and spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups stale bread (day-old French bread or brioche), cubed
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup dried fruit (raisins or cranberries) – optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, cut stale bread into 1-inch cubes and set aside to dry slightly.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes and gently fold until all pieces are soaked without becoming mushy.
  5. If using dried fruit, fold it into the mixture now.
  6. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown on top.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Drizzle with cream or serve with ice cream for an indulgent treat.

Notes

  • This dish can be served warm or at room temperature.
  • Feel free to add nuts or alternate dried fruits as desired.
  • If you desire a richer flavor, consider using brown sugar instead of granulated sugar.
