- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir just until combined. Do not overmix.
- Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease it.
- Pour 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake.
- Cook for 2–3 minutes on the first side until bubbles form and the edges are set. Flip and cook another 2–3 minutes.
- Repeat with remaining batter.
- Serve warm with cream cheese glaze, syrup, or toppings of choice.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon to the dry ingredients.
- These pancakes are best served immediately for optimal fluffiness.
