Description

Deliciously fluffy homemade cheese biscuits that are perfect as a side or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder if using.
  3. Cut in Butter: Add the cold butter cubes to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add Cheese: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until it is evenly distributed.
  5. Add Buttermilk: Gradually add the buttermilk, stirring until the dough is just combined. It will be sticky.
  6. Shape Biscuits: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Gently pat the dough to about 1-inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
  8. Brush with Butter: Remove from the oven and immediately brush the tops with melted butter.
  9. Garnish: Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Cold Ingredients: Ensure your butter is very cold to achieve flakiness in the biscuits.
  • Don’t Overmix: Be careful not to overmix the dough as this can make the biscuits tough.
  • Cheese Variations: Feel free to experiment with different cheeses, like gouda or pepper jack, for varied flavors.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven to maintain crispness.
