Description

This vibrant and festive swirl cake is perfect for holiday celebrations. With its colorful layers and delicious glaze, it will surely impress your guests!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Red food coloring
  • Green food coloring
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a bundt pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract. In another bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt together. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until smooth.
  3. Divide the batter equally into three separate bowls. Add red food coloring to one bowl and green food coloring to another. Leave the third bowl plain. Mix the food coloring into the batter until well combined.
  4. Drop alternating spoonfuls of each colored batter into the prepared bundt pan to create a swirl effect. Use a knife to gently swirl through the batter to create a marbled effect.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake.

Notes

  • To enhance the flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of almond extract along with the vanilla extract.
  • For a richer color, adjust the amount of food coloring to achieve the desired hue.
  • Ensure the cake is completely cool before drizzling the glaze to prevent it from melting.
  • Decorate with holiday-themed sprinkles for an extra festive touch.
