Description

Delicious fried pies filled with a creamy cream cheese filling and strawberry jam.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz (226g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) strawberry jam or preserves
  • 1 package (16 oz / 8 count) refrigerated biscuit dough (like Pillsbury Grands)
  • All-purpose flour, for dusting
  • about 4 cups vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, 1/4 cup sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla extract with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
  2. Place the strawberry jam in a separate small bowl for easy assembly.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each biscuit into a 5-inch circle.
  4. Place about 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese filling in the center of a dough circle.
  5. Top the cream cheese with 1 teaspoon of strawberry jam.
  6. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges firmly with your fingers to seal.
  7. Use a fork to crimp the edges securely, ensuring no filling can leak out. Repeat with the remaining biscuits and filling.
  8. Heat about 3 inches of vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Carefully place 2-3 pies into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot.
  10. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are deeply golden brown and puffed.
  11. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried pies to a wire rack set over a paper towel-lined baking sheet to drain excess oil.
  12. In a shallow bowl, mix the remaining 1/4 cup sugar with cinnamon (if using).
  13. While the pies are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon sugar to coat evenly.
  14. Serve warm and enjoy the gooey, creamy center!

Notes

  • These pies are best enjoyed fresh and warm.
  • Feel free to substitute blueberry or raspberry jam in place of strawberry.
