Description
Delicious fried pies filled with a creamy cream cheese filling and strawberry jam.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz (226g) cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (120ml) strawberry jam or preserves
- 1 package (16 oz / 8 count) refrigerated biscuit dough (like Pillsbury Grands)
- All-purpose flour, for dusting
- about 4 cups vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, 1/4 cup sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla extract with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
- Place the strawberry jam in a separate small bowl for easy assembly.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out each biscuit into a 5-inch circle.
- Place about 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese filling in the center of a dough circle.
- Top the cream cheese with 1 teaspoon of strawberry jam.
- Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges firmly with your fingers to seal.
- Use a fork to crimp the edges securely, ensuring no filling can leak out. Repeat with the remaining biscuits and filling.
- Heat about 3 inches of vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully place 2-3 pies into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are deeply golden brown and puffed.
- Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried pies to a wire rack set over a paper towel-lined baking sheet to drain excess oil.
- In a shallow bowl, mix the remaining 1/4 cup sugar with cinnamon (if using).
- While the pies are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon sugar to coat evenly.
- Serve warm and enjoy the gooey, creamy center!
Notes
- These pies are best enjoyed fresh and warm.
- Feel free to substitute blueberry or raspberry jam in place of strawberry.
